Twin Castles and Playhouse
A wonderful castle and playhouse combination carefully designed to keep its appeal as the young boys in this family grow.
The project comprises a rear playhouse flanked by castle towers and includes lots of accessories for an active family. Careful attention has been made throughout this build to include lots of potential access points whether by stairs, ladders, climbing wall or slide so there's little danger of a successful enemy invasion.
The playhouse sits on a platform 2ft (0.6m) high. The platform is reached by a low central staircase and has a walkway that extends in front of the playhouse with another low staircase at each end to provide alternative access routes and allow different circuits to be made around the structure.
The playhouse itself has a central stable door a diamond shaped cut out with a window to each side.
The walkway has further staircase access points at each end that leads up to each of the castle towers.
Each of the towers is 5ft 10in (1.8m) square and 7ft 10in (2.4m) high and both have an internal platform with ladder access to the ground and an open doorway at ground level.
The platform height of the left hand tower is set to 4ft 11in (1.5m) to accommodate a spiral slide. There is an open octagonal topped doorway to the rear of this tower and it has a narrow slit castle style window to both the front and rear.
The platform height of the right hand tower is set at bit lower at 3ft 11in (1.2m) which means that the climbing wall with knotted rope is not to steep. This tower has an open octagonal doorway to the front and rear at ground level and it too has narrow slit castle style windows to both the front and rear.
Both towers are painted internally and externally and have decked bases to provide hard-wearing floors.
There is a swing gantry in between the towers with tyre, baby and plastic swing seats.
A pulley with basket is attached to the tower on the right hand side which provides a handy place for provisions to be sent into the tower and each tower has a corded flag pole with pirate flag so there can be no debate about ownership.
All staircases and raised areas are protected with balustrade rails.
