This was an incredibly exciting project which we finished last week – something for the truly adventurous.
The structure incorporates a playhouse, a castle, a decking area and multiple activities which provide exciting areas for children of all ages to play with and enjoy (not to mention adults!). The awesome specification includes – a playhouse, a castle over a river, staircase to the river bank, rope bridge, fireman’s pole, swing seat, horse swing and climbing wall – for a child the play potentials here are endless!
After spending an afternoon in the garden last weekend it was great to see the first signs of spring - the snow drops are out and the daffodils are starting to show, plus there’s even a little more daylight in the afternoons. It won’t be too long before we're outside and filling our lungs with fresh air after a long winter. It’s approaching The Playhouse Company’s busiest time of the year in about 7/8 weeks, so if you are thinking of getting a playhouse for the start of the season, we’d recommend getting in touch.
It is difficult to say when the first official children’s playhouse existed yet I do know that children are incredibly inventive and as soon as they are left to play will create their own space – whether it’s a sheet over the sofa or an old door leaning up against a tree. Historically, humans have always created recreational spaces from plants and trees. The Egyptians and Assyrians grew vines over trellis structures to create shaded areas and protect them from the sun. Little is known about how and when tree shelters first became popular.
A child’s world is an adult’s envy: adventures, creativity, innocence, imagination and not forgetting the mischief. These are things oblivious to children but precious to parents and need to be encouraged – and where better for children to learn and create than in their own space? A space they can turn into their very own spaceship, racing car or jungle adventure, whether it is a cardboard box or an old shed, a child’s creativity is endless. A playhouse is the perfect way to give your children this space complete with independence, fresh air and all within the safety of your own garden.
We’re just about to start building a large and exciting playhouse for Longleat Safari Park to go in their adventure play area. This turned our thoughts to safe play and particularly in the garden – something we know a lot about!
Happy New Year and welcome to our second blog!
Christmas may be over but we are all still working flat out as our new product range is being launched in February! Luckily our new wood burning stove was recently delivered so we are all toasty warm while we build the playhouses - plus it’s also rather clever and runs entirely on our waste timber and sawdust.
A warm season’s greetings to our first blog! This is Richard and Kay and together we run The Playhouse Company from the heart of rural Herefordshire.
