This play castle and platform encorporates exisiting trees within a garden making it a good use of space as well as it looking great.  The castle style playhouse has a stable door at the front with a diamond shape cut out and a non opening window to the right. On the left hand side there is a set of shutter windows which are great for imaginative play.  Internally the castle is painted white. There is a platform on top of the castle which is accessed via a ladder on the back and leads up to a gate guarding the platform from unwanted visitors.  To add to the castle appearance there is castle style windows around the top of the castle. The platform to the right of the castle wraps around exisiting trees and gives the opportunity to walk within and around the main tree trunks.  The platform is accessed via a staircase to the back of the platform and it is protected with balustrade rails.

Floor - Decking

Decking

Decking can be laid at ground level either as a floor for a play-frame, a sub base for a playhouse or to give an additional play area.  The decking boards are good quality grooved redwood boards that are pressure treated.  The deck boards are screwed to pressure treated 50mm x 100mm timber bearers which in turn sit on bricks placed at ground level.  A weed prevention membrane is fitted below the decking to ensure that there is no plant growth up through the boards. If it is being used as a sub-base or play area a skirt is fitted to match to deck.

Decking can be painted with a non slip rubberised paint, please ask for details.

Roof - Castle

Castle

Castles have a weatherproof ground floor with the first floor exposed to the elements.  We achieve this is by putting a felted roof, sloping to either the left or right on top of the first level we are then able to put a decking platform on top of this with a compensating angle making the roof flat.
We use two layers of waterproof membrane over a 12mm plywood base. The decking boards are tanolised and grooved.  Around the decking we then fit castellated walls and put in spacers treated the same as the playhouse sides to hide the roof.

Windows - Non-opening Glazed

Non-opening Glazed

The windows are built as separate units; once they have been sanded and treated they are glazed and then fitted and sealed using clear silicon into the frame. These windows are glazed with 2mm polycarbonate sheet, this is completely clear, will not fade or become brittle with time, it is 200 times the strength of glass making it virtually shatter proof.

Windows - Shutters

Shutters

Shuttered windows are built to the same high specification as our doors. All are a non-trap design, using a piano hinge down the whole length of the shutter, and then a rebate on the inside down the hinged side. When the shutter is in the closed position there is a taper between the shutter and the frame, so should little fingers be left in the way they will not be pinched. The shutters are held shut from the inside using brass bolts. Our shutters have a knob both inside and out and can have a shape cut out if required.

Sides - Option 2

Option 2

This level of build is a popular option as it gives the additional benefits of a damp proof membrane in the walls and a smooth surface on the inside that is suitable for decoration. Initially a framework is built using 50mm x 38mm redwood timber with rounded edges. On the outside of this we fit, using galvanised pins, 6mm wbp external plywood followed by a damp poof membrane and then good quality redwood shiplap, this makes the side panels. These panels are then sanded and treated on the outside using two coats of Sadolin wood preservative. These are then fitted together on site, a clear silicon seal is applied to all the corners.

Doors - Stable

Stable

All our doors are built with safety as a paramount concern. All are special a non-trap design, using piano hinge down the whole length of the door, and then a rebate on the inside of the hinged side. When the door is in the closed position there is a taper between the door and frame, so should little fingers be left in the way they will not be pinched. Doors are held closed with heavy duty magnets on both sections of the door; this prevents a child getting locked in accidentally, and has a special flange on the bottom half to prevent little fingers being caught when the top door is slammed against it.  The window on the door is glazed with unbreakable 2mm polycarbonate sheet. Doors have a knob inside and out.
